Recognising copied or misleading seals

Verify the destination, domain and status before relying on a badge.

Archive period: 2026-03 · Informational archive guide. This period is an editorial classification, not its original publication date.

Inspect the link

A badge can be copied as an ordinary image. Follow its verification link and inspect the destination address. A link to a screenshot, an unrelated domain or an operator-controlled imitation is not equivalent to a live registry record.

Compare the website

Check that the queried address matches the site you are visiting. A valid record for a different domain does not establish coverage for your current website. Similar spelling and familiar artwork are insufficient evidence.

Preserve useful evidence

If a seal appears misleading, record the page address and the destination link, then contact the registry. Avoid sharing private account information. This guide explains verification practice and does not announce a historical investigation or enforcement action.
